Split bamboo fencing need to be absorbed by the ground slightly. If there is contact with the ground, it is prone to rotting. If you do not want to wait six months to a year for the bamboo to the weather, you can sand the hard outer surface of bamboo and then stain, lacquer or water trap. The sharpened bamboo surface will be able to accept finishes and sealers.
