Split bamboo fencing is popular because of its durability. Its durability, maintenance and longevity are also things to be consider before buying. Bamboo fences come in two types. There is pole fencing, sometimes called sugar cane fences and split or woven fencing.  Apart from being environmentally friendly, bamboo is very stout. It does not crumple and bend and withstand the weather good.

An added plus is that it does not require any maintenance. Bamboo fence panels or in rolls which may form a shape and cut to any length, depending on your needs. Split or woven fencing is a thinner and smoother than the fence pole or cane fence. Split or woven fences are not as durable as the cane fence. Split bamboo fencing will last about 10 years, while the pole or cane fences can last 20 years. Both fences will last longer if a sealant is apply.

Split bamboo fencing need to be absorbed by the ground slightly. If there is contact with the ground, it is prone to rotting. If you do not want to wait six months to a year for the bamboo to the weather, you can sand the hard outer surface of bamboo and then stain, lacquer or water trap. The sharpened bamboo surface will be able to accept finishes and sealers.
